Mexico City - Spring 2015
Hello everyone! (And I say everyone because I've slowly been discovering that people are actually reading this thing!! Ahh, the pressure! And here I thought I was talking to myself…) Sorry this post is so past due! I'd like to share some pictures of my trip with a little commentary. That (above) is a tiny part of the section of Mexico that my grandparents live in. The city is called Atizapán de Zaragoza. It's about 40 min away from downtown.
The first day we were there we woke up had breakfast, went to "Las Bodegas" which is like a huge farmer's market open every day. They sell everything from meats, dairy, veggies, fruits, grains, spices, etc. etc. etc.
They are very uncensored about their meat. It made it a lot easier for me not to eat meat the entire time I was there!
Also a lot of walking around the town, lunch at my aunt's house and acquainting Jon Paul with the neighborhood.
The second day we were there, we took the metro with my dad and grandpa to La Villa, close to Downtown, where the story goes that the Virgin Mary appeared to Juan Diego and asked him to build her a temple. There were many beautiful small churches and temples and one giant church, beautiful views, and nice grassy areas to relax. Right outside the site there are tons of restaurants and flower shops(!!!), so we grabbed a bite before heading back.
We also celebrated my little cousin's birthday party, clowns and all!
Our third day we took a trip into Downtown and spent the entire day and evening there and didn't even scratch the surface in terms of seeing the sights. I got used to tiny little San Diego and didn't imagine that a city could be SO big! We went to the castle of Chapultepec, walked in the park for a bit, the museum of anthropology, Bellas Artes, Zocaló, and roamed the streets. It was a lot to take in.
I also went to the flower market while I was in MX, which I will share in a separate post because it was so cool!
